Commitment to Change June 23, 2020

The Federal Home Loan Banks share in the deep grief and anger felt throughout our communities over racial injustice and the structures that foster such inequality against Black Americans.

The 11 FHLBanks are aligned in our commitment to promote diversity and inclusion. We recognize that more must be done to help eliminate the racial and economic inequality that exists in our country. The banking and housing systems are not immune to this issue. Access to banking services and home ownership are imperative to overcoming racial wealth disparities.

“Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.” We must now do the hard work that novelist and civil rights activist James Baldwin challenges us to do. The FHLBanks are committed to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion within our Banks and in our communities. We pledge to do more to listen to and support our employees, continue to develop diversity in our leadership, and use our unique position as a provider of liquidity to financial institutions of many kinds as a venue to advance financial opportunity for all.
